House Extends Homebuyers’ Tax Credit, Unemployment BenefitsThursday, 5 November 2009 Washington, DC – Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) joined his colleagues today in passing legislation that extends the homebuyers’ tax credit for an additional three months. Earlier this fall, the Congressman introduced legislation to extend the credit for one full year. Today’s bill, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act, also provides stability to American families hit hardest by the recession by extending unemployment benefits and tax relief for military families and businesses. Congressman Childers Votes to Protect Seniors’ Access to Doctors
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) voted to preserve seniors’ access to their doctors by fixing the way Medicare pays physicians. The Medicare Physician Payment Reform Act will permanently reform the Medicare payment system, repealing a 21 percent cut in payments to doctors scheduled to take place in January and replacing it with a stable system that protects seniors, preserves their relationship with their doctors, and promotes primary care.
Congressman Childers Announces Disaster Relief Designation for All First District Counties
Washington, DC – Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) decision to designate nearly all Mississippi counties – including all 24 counties in the First Congressional District – as disaster areas, providing much-needed relief to farmers suffering from significant crop losses due to heavy rainfall and flooding. The designation follows the Congressman’s urging last month for both the USDA and the State of Mississippi to act swiftly in gathering information necessary to provide farmers with this assistance.
